Community Awareness & Board Development Intern 

The purpose of the Friends of the Community Gardens is to protect and improve the sustainability, growth and future opportunities for the Brown County Community Gardens by accessing monetary and non-monetary resources.  The Friends supports the community gardener’s efforts in growing affordable, sufficient, nutritious and culturally appropriate food.  Our Motto since 2017: We grow better together.

Goals:

The Community Awareness & Board Development Intern  will assist the leadership within the Friends of the Community Garden non-profit and other community partners to strengthen the Friends of the Community Gardens non-profit. The intern will work with leaders to develop plans to educate and increase community awareness of the Friends of Community Gardens non-profit, resulting in increased brand awareness, reach potential board or service committee members, as well as support board improvement through specific tasks. 


Primary Tasks:

  • Research and suggest high value community events to attend to promote and recruit Board Members for Friends of Community Gardens.
  • Plan an awareness event, including volunteers needed for FCG Board and service committees.
  • Informally interview community members you meet to recruit volunteers, donors and board members. Gather information that can help us tailor our efforts to their different needs.
  • Promote awareness of Friends of Community gardens using a appropriate marketing and storytelling strategies.
  • Share what is learned from your outreach and possibly suggest job description changes that might strengthen the board function.
  • Host one or more meeting(s) to review and focus board job descriptions and by-laws, possibly including adding a service committee structure.
  • Assist in developing check lists of tasks or other tools for Friends board members that will increase sustainability and clarity in board positions.

 

Qualifications:

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, especially in creating and presenting engaging content.

Community Engagement: Experience in community outreach, either in event planning or attending events as a representative of an organization.

Social Media Proficiency: Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) is a plus. 

Data Entry and Reporting: Ability to manage and analyze data.

Marketing and Fundraising: Knowledge of marketing strategies.

Design Skills: Familiarity with design tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is a bonus.

Passion for social causes: A genuine interest in making a difference within the community 

The most successful candidate will be energetic and self-starting, interested in board governance, focused on completion of tasks, and eager to learn.
