Assistant Director of Nutrition Services

The Sartell-St. Stephen School District is currently seeking applicants to fill the role of Assistant Director of Nutrition Services. This position is to assist the Director in the directing, supervising, training and management of food service staff district wide. The position also assists in assuring compliance with local, state and federal laws/regulations in the operation of the district Child Nutrition Programs and other duties as assigned.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Managing and supervising assigned kitchen and personnel.
    • Determines work assignments for assigned building staff, including, but not limited to production schedules, special assignments and overtime.
    • Assists in interviewing and hiring for assigned positions.
    • Recommends and initiates personnel actions for department personnel including evaluation, transfer, promotion, demotion, discipline, and dismissal decisions of department staff.
    • Identify, coordinates and/or delivers staff orientation, training and development, including performance improvement plans, department and individual employee goals.
    • Monitors staff performance to assure efficiency of operations in accordance with facility plans and schedules.
  • Develops and coordinates daily production records, associated nutritional analysis for meal programs/ala carte and compliance procedures for meal program regulations.
  • Coordinates research and testing of new products with students and staff.  Provides assistance to the Food Service Director to research new menu and ala carte items within nutritional and cost guidelines.
  • Assists in coordination of special dietary needs process/procedures and assists in preparation of special diet menus. Assists in providing special dietary needs related information to internal and external stakeholders.  Assists in developing, updating and maintaining standard operating procedures/processes (including HAACP) and helps monitor compliance for local, state and federal regulations.

Qualifications: 
The successful applicant will hold an Associate's Degree in Nutrition, Culinary or similar degree; Registered Dietitian preferred.   

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a school nutrition or food service setting
  • School Nutrition Association Level 2 Certification*
  • Department of Health Food Manager Certification*
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience working with children is strongly desired
  • Pervious management experience strongly desired
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid driver's license

*Required certifications within first 6 months of employment

Work Year: 
This is an 8 hour/day,  222 days per year position (approx. 11 months)
