Construction Manager Senior - Enterprise Projects - Hybrid

This position is located in Duluth, MN at ALLETE headquarters.  This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement after an initial period of on premise training and work, based on ALLETE’s needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee’s position will be a blend where work is performed both in person and at an offsite local location such as an employee’s home office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for construction management of Enterprise Projects. 
  • Provides oversight, coordination, training, daily observation documentation, field results, quality assurance and communication with project managers. 
  • Collaborates with Project Managers in project development, crafting project execution plans, formulating construction contracting strategies, and assisting in contractor selection.  
  • Responsible for construction management activities including coordinating resources, documenting daily construction observations, reporting project progress to applicable management teams, reviewing, and communicating field results, ensuring compliance standards and contractor adherence to plans and specifications, communicating schedule changes, coordination, and general oversight of contractors of Enterprise Projects under limited direction.  
  • Provides direction to contractors and coworkers to achieve successful large scale new construction projects. 
  • Leverages knowledge of best practices and the latest technologies to address complex challenges.   
  • Ensures internal and external consultants/contractors follow Company standards and safety requirements. 
  • Develops and communicates project management plans, encompassing scope, schedule, and cost for projects that support significant capital investments, including a variety of infrastructure projects. 
  • Entails leading independent or bundled projects and providing on-site construction oversight when needed, along with the management of diverse construction and professional services contracts.  
  • Possesses an in-depth knowledge of the Company, its processes, best practices, and customer, while analyzing solutions and resolving a range of complex problems. 
  • Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively build and maintain internal and external working relationships.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree PLUS 10 years or more of directly related work experience.*

OR

  • Associate's degree PLUS 12 years or more of directly related work experience.*

*Directly related work experience may include construction management, project management, engineering, architecture, accounting, budgeting, and/or related field. Infrastructure, electric utility, or industrial fields experience preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Travel required - within Minnesota, northwest Wisconsin, and North Dakota. 
  • Requires effective communication with internal and external stakeholders and sound analytical skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of project management skills, techniques and terminology. 
  • Exceptional coordination, organization, and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc).
  • Knowledge of Primavera and Power BI preferred.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
