Public Safety Communications Technician

The purpose of the Public Safety Communications Technician is to assist with maintenance, repairs, and installation of various communication systems for all Sauk County owned communications equipment.
*Anticipated starting date is on or after January 1, 2024.
Essential Duties
- Maintain, test, and service communication equipment to include items like two-way radio, radio console systems, microwave components, generators, HVAC units, power panels, breakers, and others.
- Install public safety equipment in various county owned vehicles.
- Install antenna systems and ensure systems are operating correctly by troubleshooting antenna related problems.
- Responds to trouble reports, performs trouble shooting activities and repairs/replaces malfunctioning equipment and/or facilities.
- Assist with inventory maintenance of all communication related equipment for Sauk County. Document and and/or log equipment/system installation and/or modification actions.
- Maintain a proactive maintenance program for all systems.
- Assist with management of maintenance/long term care of the Tower/Fiber network Facilities.
- Properly operate a vehicle with a trailer.
- Assist with locating county owned utilities.
- Ensures compliance with building and electrical codes.
- And other duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Education
Required:
Associate's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or another related field.
1 years of electrical experience
2 years of knowledge in Radio Frequency System Design and Management
Certifications/Licenses:
Valid Wisconsin State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
Preferred:
Experience with items such as phone systems, microwaves, radios, and other emergency communication equipment.
Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
