Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and energetic individual to serve as Children’s Accounts Unit Support.  Under direction, this position will perform various detailed and complex functions requiring a working knowledge of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations used by the Social Security Administration, Children’s Account Unit, and other internal and external units to clarify, resolve, and perform support functions.  The position will track the number of Social Security Administration applications submitted and approved for dedicated account benefits and will open trust accounts in the Trust System mainframe screens based on Social Security award notices and letters, DHFS child support collections, and/or settlement information provided by the DCFS Guardian’s Office.  The position will also complete data entry of online representative payee reports for the Social Security Administration to assist in its effort to determine how benefits were received and spent on behalf of each child.  This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is detail oriented and interested in playing a supporting role in the Department’s operations.  DCFS offers a competitive compensation plan, excellent benefits, and a pension program.  The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills.  We invite you to join our innovative team to help make a positive difference in the lives of the children and families of Illinois

 

Job Responsibilities

1. Serves as Children’s Accounts Unit Support

2. Completes data entry of online representative payee reports for the Social Security Administration to assist in its effort to determine how benefits were received and spent on behalf of each child

3. Keyboards and prepares various forms, reports, correspondence, and memos to be sent to the Social Security Administration, DCFS, and purchase of service staff and providers

4. Performs various detailed and complex functions requiring a working knowledge of policies used by the Social Security Administration, the Children’s Accounts Unit, and other internal and external units to clarify, solve, and perform support functions, including the provision of information or assistance to phone inquiries from DCFS and POS case workers and the SSA regarding active accounts and the amount of monthly benefits received

5. Researches payments received that appear on the DHFS Foster Care Distribution Error Report and takes appropriate action to facilitate resolution

6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

 

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college OR completion of high school and two years of related office experience OR two years of independent business experience.

2. Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 30 wpm

Preferred Qualification

1. 2 years of experience in an office setting applying knowledge of office practices, procedures, and programs

2. 2 years of experience in an office setting applying knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation

3. 2 years of experience in an office setting applying working knowledge of the logic of computer programs

4. 2 years of experience in an office setting applying the ability to operate commonly used manual and automated   office equipment and performing routine maintenance
