activity.

Project Summary

The F. E. Thompson Digital Library for Family Research is seeking intern support in the areas of historical background research and other identified program elements as it pertains to the development of Minnesota’s only Black Historical Sites Tour. The project entails researching identified topics relating to the cultural historic sites selected for the tour. Gather primary and secondary sources, summary of research and findings. May include conducting oral history interviews and preparing transcripts. The intern will be familiar with the African American community, and comfortable engaging with its members.

History, African American Studies, Cultural Studies, Comparative Literature, Anthropology, Business, Media Studies, Film Video Production

Responsibilities

  • Create schedule that works for you and communicate any changes or needs in advance. 
  • Work with supervisor to set goals and co-create a supportive learning and activities plan
  • Participate with progress updates, communication of ideas and feedback. 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills, an eye for detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience working in media related field and/or training in research technique and best practice; comfortable working with primary sources
  • Understanding of business and building capacity for independently created concepts
  • Effective production skills for social media content
  • Preference given to applicants with knowledge of Minnesota African American history
  • Knowledge of and ability to comfortably interact with varied platforms of communication and research such as websites and media (print, radio, social media)
  • Experience with conducting oral histories or source interviews is ideal, but not required.

  • Example of a quality community-led engagement and partnership with a public learning institution.
  • Research, writing, developing best business practices and skill building
  • Experience in a professional museum environment.
  • Increased skill in conducting oral histories and preparing transcripts
  • Creative strategies in culturally specific community engagement
