Accounting/Finanace Summer 2023 Internship

Background
BPC’s Finance and Accounting department is a functional team within BPC that handles the accounting functions and financial reporting for the organization. Our team works as a key component in major decisions within BPC and operates as an internal customer service for BPC departments. The work includes staff payroll, calculating benefits, accounts receivables/payables, and organizational and department financial reporting.

The Finance and Accounting team works with every project and department within BPC. We are looking for an Intern to support our team by performing various administrative tasks to support the department’s daily activities and take on various projects as we look to provide BPC with exemplary customer service. Responsibilities:
The Finance and Accounting intern will be responsible for assisting in administering aspects of the weekly accounts payables functions and monthly credit card reconciliations, as well as assisting with financial reporting, month-end and year-end close. The Finance and Accounting intern must be efficient in a remote environment. Interns are allowed to visit or come into the office three times a week.

The intern will report to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis and the Controller.

Accounting:
  • Assist in investigating outstanding Accounts Receivables, uncleared checks and unpaid invoices
  • Assist with processing Accounts Payable
  • Perform filing and scanning of all transactions
  • Assist Accounting team with other duties as necessary
Finance:
  • Run General Ledger reports as needed
  • Grant agreements
  • Monitor for new grant agreements
  • Review agreements
  • Update GAP Analysis with dates/information
  • Monthly AvB’s
  • Run monthly AvB’s
  • Format AvB’s
  • Update revenue and grant expenses info
  • Research large variances for projects
  • Grant structure reports
  • Run monthly reports
  • Update projected spending
  • Update remaining balances
  • Update Donor Spreadsheet
  • Ad Hoc requests – Ability to build graphs and charts using Excel
Responsibilities include research and writing, monitoring news and congressional activity, helping out BPC Action's Communications Manager with BPC Action's social media accounts, blogging, and other communications activities and administrative duties as needed. The intern will be exposed to key congressional players and participate in strategic outreach.

Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate school, or be a recent grad.
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Independent, efficient worker with experience managing multiple, pressing deadlines
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with senior-level staff
  • Strong interest and understanding of the legislative process
  • Previous internship in a legislative office or government relations office preferred
  • Collaborative and enthusiastic team player

SUMMER PROGRAM
BPC has a robust summer program. Interns work full time, and will receive a $6,000 stipend for ten weeks of work. Interns must be rising juniors or above. Applicants must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate program or a recent graduate. Interns will provide functional support, conduct research, and work directly with project analysts and staff in various capacities. 
 *Please note that our Summer internship will be hybrid program*
