Investment Division Student Intern - Multi Asset Stategies

The IMD Student Intern – MSG (Multi-Asset Strategies) performs entry level investment research and analysis work. Work involves assisting investment staff with investment related research and analysis and performing special projects, with a primary focus on gaining practical work experience for personal development or to satisfy educational requirements. This position reports to the Director level within MSG.

Note: This position is a full-time, temporary, limited term assignment
 
Benefits of a TRS Investment Management Internship: This is a paid, full-time position that offers interns the opportunity to gain substantive experience in Investment activities and initiatives. Interns enjoy the chance to get training and mentoring from experienced professionals in Risk & Portfolio Management. 

This position is scheduled to start on June 5, 2023 and will end on August 11, 2023.  We require that all IMD interns live in Austin, Texas for the duration of their internship.

Salary will be dependent upon education level:

Undergraduate Student (Senior) - $35/hour
5 Year Master’s Student - $40/hour
MBA Student - $60/hour


WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Data Quality
• Curates data for different tradable instruments, including stocks, bonds, futures, contracts, commodities, and more.
• Performs manual steps and assists or develops programs and processes to ensure the completeness and integrity of financial reference datasets.
• Helps to drive continuous improvements to data quality procedures and a consistent approach to how data quality is measured, monitored and reported.
 
Data Integration
• Works with vendors to deliver datasets to be loaded into TRS data infrastructure.
• Works with internal quantitative researchers and developers to provide a reasonable way to access the data.
• Integrates the dataset and research code changes into production.
• Maintains documentation related to the dataset and APIs.
 
Quantitative research
• Works on ad-hoc research projects that support signal development, portfolio construction and implementation/execution related issues.
• Documents findings at internal research meetings.
 
• Performs related work as assigned.
 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education:
·       Must be currently enrolled in and actively attending an undergraduate degree program with a major in in computer science, computer systems, mathematics/statistics, finance, engineering or a related area, at an accredited college or university, and must complete their junior year (90 hours) by the start of the internship OR must be currently enrolled in and actively attending a graduate program in finance, accounting, business administration or a related area.
  • GPA at or above 3.25
·       Applicant will be required to submit a copy of official college transcripts.

 Preferred Qualifications
  •  Experience or education in areas of programming and database fundamentals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • The software development process and exposure to hands-on coding in a professional environment.
  • Python and/or Java.
  • SQL and working with a relational database system, such as Microsoft SQL Server.
Skill in:
  • Problem-solving and analytical abilities including pattern detection, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
Ability to:
  • Design and develop effective data quality tests and measures.
