POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Building Principal, this position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student an awareness of the role of technology education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Teaches skills and knowledge in one or more courses in metals, machine shop, woodworking, power mechanics, or general shop.
- Demonstrates industrial materials, equipment, tools and processes, using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids. Organizes activities for optimal learning
- Instructs students in use of eye protection and safety guards, and in the use, care, and safe operation of tools, machines, and equipment.
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the department’s basic instructional philosophy to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
- Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class.
- Evaluates each student’s growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Wisconsin DPI certified in Technology Education (1220).
- Experience in Engineering is a plus.
- Project Lead the Way training is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- If not already trained, must be willing to attend Project Lead the Way training to implement the curriculum.
- Must be knowledgeable in and utilize Differentiated Instruction, 21st Century Skills, PLC, RtI, and PBIS.
- Willing to work as a member of a team to provide common, rigorous opportunities within the classroom.
- Knowledge and experience in traditional and computer assisted technology education programs (3D designing, planning, and printing projects).
- A desire to meet the needs of all students, including at-risk, special education, and English Language Learners, is paramount.
- Knowledgeable in the Wisconsin Technology Education Standards.
- Must be willing and able to work well as part of department, building, and community teams.
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate use of a wide variety of instructional strategies.
- Skill engaging students in learning, including the wide range of instructional strategies needed for all students to learn well.
- Comprehensive understanding of the content being taught and designing effective instruction and assessment based on this understanding as well as district established curriculum.
