Intern, Practice Improvement & Consulting

Internship Summary
Internships at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing provide recent or current college students with a 12-week remote experience to grow within a professional area of interest. As a National Council intern, you will model our organization's values: showing a bias for action, helping shape the future, being a team player, being curious, and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
All interns are paid $20/hour. This is a remote, part-time internship projected to start with a spring cohort at the National Council on February 22, 2023 and end on May 17, 2023.

Internship Responsibilities
The Intern, Practice Improvement & Consulting, will work directly with a practice area leader to conduct research, create written products, and contribute to departmental projects focused on improving clinical, financial, and operational practices within community behavioral health and other points of care. Examples of past intern projects and responsibilities include literature reviews on evidence-based practices in behavioral health such as Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT); project summaries for our website and proposals for additional work; and survey reports that articulate practice challenges for policymakers and other external audiences.

  • Attend staff engagement activities, including practice area meetings (as needed), department meetings, all-staff meetings
  • Conduct online research in support of literature reviews, responses to member inquiries, environmental scans, and surveys of membership
  • Support virtual learning on Zoom for various training and technical assistance events
  • Quantitative and qualitative data collection and visualization
  • Contribute to formatting, citation, and proofreading in Word and PowerPoint
  • Research and writing on a variety of behavioral health care topics
  • Create early copy for web content summarizing department initiatives
  • Develop functional project elements such as data tracking spreadsheets, or project structure within Asana project management software
  • Participate in professional development opportunities organized for interns, such as virtual meet-ups with organizational leadership, journal club, peer networking, and other professional development opportunities

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Current or recent enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in a related field
  • Major or minor coursework in social work or other clinical professional programs; public health; health care administration; medicine; law; industrial engineering; or related field
  • Strong analytical, writing, research, and phone skills
