The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is seeking currently enrolled college students who are interested in hourly employment opportunities this upcoming summer.

As the State's Department of Transportation, the NJDOT plans, designs, builds, and maintains New Jersey's transportation network. The Department is now offering hourly positions that will allow students to work on an hourly basis in the summer of 2023 (between May and August). Hours of work will be determined by the hiring unit, but will not exceed 40 hours per week. It should be noted that the position does not offer a benefits package.

Division Description:
The Division of Construction & Materials is responsible for the oversight of all construction projects in the Capital Program and for performing the Regional Materials quality assurance program. The Division also oversees the enforcement of all Contract provisions, material inspections, and the quality of the constructed work.

Unit Description:
The Regional Construction Units are responsible for ensuring the contractor constructs projects in accordance with the plans and specifications and are in compliance with Contract requirements. The Regional Materials Units ensure the materials being supplied and used on all projects are tested, inspected, and meet quality standards.

Position Description:
• Assisting a Resident Engineer (RE) on various projects in assigned regional counties in NJ
• Positions will cover our North, Central, or South Regions
• Field work, reading and comprehending contract plans and specifications for construction projects
• Monitoring traffic control for public safety and ensuring contract compliance
• Inspecting and documenting work performed by the contractors, checking the quality and quantity of material received on a project
• Preparing cost adjustments and technical reports
• Performing material testing on site and ensuring all required tests are performed and documented

Preferred Qualities/Experience:
• Third year student pursing a degree in Civil Engineering
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States according to the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. NJDOT does not provide sponsorship or accept student OPT/CPT program, F1 or H1B work authorization visas.
