Temporary Employee Services (TES)- Planner

Seeking third-year student pursing a degree in Urban Planning with GIS.

The New JerseyDepartment of Transportation (NJDOT) is seeking currently enrolled college students who are interested in hourly employment opportunities this upcoming summer. As the State's Department of Transportation, the NJDOT plans, designs, builds, and maintains New Jersey's transportation network. The Department is now offering hourly positions that will allow students to work on an hourly basis in the summer of 2023 (between May and August). Hours of work will be determined by the hiring unit, but will not exceed 40 hours per week. It should be noted that the position does not offer a benefits package. Unit Description: The Division of Local Aid and Economic Development within the NJDOT works with county and municipal government through State and Federal Aid programs to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the local transportation system. This unit is responsible to advance projects that enhance safety, renew the aging infrastructure, and support the State's economy and new transportation opportunities. Position Description: This assignment and functions include the following: • Review, rate prioritize and recommend grant applications for all Local Aid Municipal, State and Federal Aid Programs • Assist Project Managers for NJDOT Local Aid funded projects • Conduct equity analysis using GIS tools • Digitize and update project GIS maps • Assist Project Manager with revising program policy and procedures • Administer, track, and provide technical assistance on various federal programs • Review contract documents including plans, specifications, construction estimate for compliance with regulations • Assist Project Manager with assessing Local Public Agencies for federal aid eligibility • Maintain project files and records and prepare project status reports Preferred Qualities/Experience: • A third - year student pursing a degree in Urban Planning with GIS Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States according to the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
