Mechanical Engineer

I’m seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join my Facilities team at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. 

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for performing engineering evaluations and making engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks. You will conduct maintenance tasks, component upgrades, and the design of critical systems, in accordance with applicable codes and standards, that service the Naval Reactors Facility. Your duties will require a healthy balance between office and field work. Cognizant areas may include planning, designing, modeling, analyzing, documenting, and testing of nuclear, mechanical, structural or electrical components, systems and equipment. Work may include chemical or materials evaluations, design reviews, operations support, safety analysis, engineering methods and software development, and analysis of vendor's procedures and systems for quality control or manufacturing surveillance.

REQUIRED SKILLS *

Intermediate:
  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience; or
  • Currently or previously EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
  • SRE Qualification

Advanced:
  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
  • Currently or previously NPE qualified or CTE/ACRS and one year of EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
  • Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and one year as SRE

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with steam systems including boilers, high pressure steam distribution, steam components, associated codes and standards
  • Familiarity with applicable state codes and ASHRAE Fundamentals
  • Familiarity with heating ventilation and air conditioning systems for commercial and industrial applications
  • Strong interpersonal and teaming skills
  • Ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with engineering software and building automation systems
  • Experience with developing engineering work documents (i.e., design drawings, technical specifications, engineering analyses)
