Facilities Designer Intern LTE

The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF), Division of Management Services, Administrator’s Office is currently recruiting to fill a Facilities Designer Intern LTE (Limited Term Employment) position in Madison, WI.
Limited-Term Employment (LTE) with DCF offers a challenging and valuable work experience. Limited-term positions are not permanent civil service positions, and as such, these positions do not offer the full range of benefits of civil service employment. These opportunities can however, provide insight to the variety of positions and opportunities for employment available with the DCF. LTE positions are limited to 1039 hours per year.

This position is headquartered at our downtown Madison office and will have the option of working remotely for up to 5 days per week; only coming in to the office on an as needed basis. This schedule may change based on training or operational needs. Employees will be required to report to 201 West Washington Avenue on their first day of employment. High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work.

Position Summary

 
This position is responsible, under the general supervision of the Agency Operations Manager, to assist in the planning, design, coordination and implementation of all DCF facility related activities.
A good working knowledge of computer aided drafting and design software is a requirement of the position. 
Evaluate and review space/building/remodeling projects using a broad perspective, and conduct space/move/remodeling planning. Provide guidance and technical expertise for major office moves and make recommendations to accommodate shifts in staffing patterns and space needs.
Provide test fits using the computer aided drafting and design software. Update floor plans with staffing changes when they occur. Coordinate and monitor schedules of service vendors and others working on the project to insure a timely completion.
Manage the surplus equipment/furniture intended for delivery to SWAP or other similar programs to dispose of unused equipment/furniture. (this requires the knowledge of surplus equipment policies)

Salary Information

 
The starting salary is $19.00 per hour. Pay for current State of WI employees will be based on the compensation plan in effect at the time of the appointment. The pay schedule/range is 14-15. 

Job Details

 
Due to the nature of the position, final candidates may be required to allow DCF to conduct a security background check to determine whether the circumstances of any pending charges or convictions would be substantially related to the job being filled.
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DCF sponsorship.) The Department of Children and Families does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

Qualifications

 
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience working with computer aided drafting and design software
  • Experience evaluating space for collaboration areas
  • Experience working with and implementing space design, especially for a hybrid work environment
 
Well-qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience providing spatial movement of staff and/or furniture
  • Project Management experience (planning, coordinating, monitoring timelines; planning resource needs, identifying and mitigating risk, etc.)
