Commodity Manager-Direct Materials

The Commodity Manager is responsible for the entire procurement process from source selection to contract implementation, ERP system data maintenance, new supplier identification, portfolio optimization and engagement in the development and implementation of the Commodity Strategy. Cost reduction activities are a significant element of the role. The Commodity Manager will be responsible primarily for the following commodity families - complex assemblies (e-Fans, valves, pumps), electrical devices (wire harnesses, controllers, etc.) and fabricated tubing, but may have additional commodity responsibilities assigned.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•        Facilitate RFI’s and RFQ’s for new product programs and other sourcing initiatives.
•        Manage ERP pricing updates.
•        Support plant material and quality escalations as needed.
•        Communicate with external suppliers to ensure data submittals align with overall program timing.
•        Analyze spend data.
•        Interface with multiple functional groups to manage projects. 
•        Assist with the supplier onboarding process.
•        Support the extraction and consolidation of key functional performance metrics.
•        Other support activities to enable new program introduction and/or strategic sourcing initiatives as required.
•        Take part in the development and implementation of the commodity strategy
•        Develop global expertise in target commodity and a thorough understanding of demand / supply market dynamics
•        Demonstrate good understanding of TCO (total cost of ownership) and various savings levers applicable to drive cost reduction
•        Execute defined strategic sourcing process for commodity
•        Prepare for and conduct contract negotiations
•        Monitor supply markets and industries including pricing trends, new suppliers and alternative solutions and supply risks
•        Identify critical supply disruption points in upstream value chain and formulate an effective strategy for mitigation
•        Support make versus buy analysis for commodity globally
•        Focus on strategic suppliers / “partners” and support Value Analysis / Value Engineering with feedback from suppliers to drive ongoing cost reduction
•        Provide recommendations on strategic design improvements to Program Procurement and Engineering and minimize Total Cost of Ownership
•        Partner with Procurement Analytics to perform ongoing price / rate benchmarking to ensure market competitiveness
•        Travel ~ 10% of time
·      Work cooperatively with Supplier Quality Engineering, Product Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to assess the quality capabilities of new and existing suppliers to ensure that all product/material purchases meet defined quality standards.
·      Anticipate supplier and Modine operational issues that could affect supply. Lead/Support activities to resolve supply issues.
·      Evaluate international procurement opportunities. Develop and execute procurement strategies that take advantage of Best Cost Country sourcing.
·      Create and expand a continuous improvement culture to achieve improvement in targeted results..
·      Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization including written, verbal, and presentation techniques.
PREFERRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Preferred candidates will have experience in the following disciplines:
·      Procurement/Strategic Sourcing/Supply Chain Management
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
·      5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing company purchasing environment or related Engineering or Manufacturing experience while demonstrating high potential within the company
·      Strong analytical and organizational skills.
·      Ability to handle multiple projects effectively.
·      Strong verbal and written communication skills.
·      Solid working knowledge of financial principles and product cost structure analysis.
·      History of continuous improvement responsibility with measurable results.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
·      Bachelor degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, Engineering or other technical field.
·      MBA preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
·      General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Standard office equipment is available.
·      Travel required to meet with suppliers, Modine facilities, and Regional and Corporate meetings.
