The Opportunity
WSDOT has an exciting opportunity for a Transportation Planning Specialist 2 to champion planning efforts and contribute to the success of fish passage barrier improvement projects. The successful candidate will be tasked with corridor planning to maintain the fish passage projects scope, schedule, and budget. You will also coordinate with community, public agencies, tribal governments, and other stakeholders to develop strategies that integrate existing fish passage barrier locations, wildlife migration patterns, and state highway safety concerns into a corridor action plan. As such we are looking for an organized, effective communicator with experience in community engagement to take on this rewarding role.
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, Transportation Planning Specialist 2 will:
- Collect data from existing WSDOT sources, partner agencies and other stakeholders to develop strategies that integrate existing fish passage barrier locations, wildlife migration patterns, and state highway safety concerns into a corridor action plan to support the fish passage delivery program.
- Perform analysis to understand stakeholder’s concerns and conduct inclusionary community engagement.
- Establish objectives, schedules and effective products for internal and external distribution that facilitate program development and implementation.
- Research technical and policy issues, evaluate, and analyze data to assess transportation and environmental impacts, and support recommendations with facts and analysis.
- Develop and evaluate study methodology and criteria for a variety of assigned projects to create scope of work and monitoring processes.
- Interpret data, write reports, develop technical folios, write issue papers, memos, and emails.
- Participates in public meetings and hearings and support the department's planning proposals, and the socioeconomic and environmental effects of them; meets with local staff to explain results of planning studies and coordinates activities between the Tribes, agencies, and local governments.
