Electronics Technologist (Experienced)

We are seeking a driven Electronics Technologist to join our diverse and growing Functional Electrical Test team for the W80-4 Warhead Modernization Program! Are you a sharp technologist who can handle a wide variety of roles and responsibilities in a collaborative work environment? In this exciting role you will be performing a variety of tasks including functional electrical test activities in support of W80-4 system development and qualification at the system and subassembly levels. You will support electrical functional testing using newly designed custom fabricated tester equipment. In addition, you'll collaborate with engineers who are responsible for W80-4 requirements, design, assembly, and qualification. This position also involves participating in both laboratory and field testing operations which requires travel.
On any given day, depending on your specialization and interests, your responsibilities may include a few or all of the following tasks:
  • Executing tests
  • Executing tester development and maintenance
  • Participating in fabrication, procurement and assembly
  • Conducting troubleshooting
  • Conducting data analysis
  • Preparing reports

Qualifications We Require

  • High school diploma plus three or more years of directly relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% to support functional electrical testing and program needs.
  • Satisfactory completion of a Job Placement Assessment (JPA) which measures your ability to meet the physical demands of the job with or without accommodation

Qualifications We Desire

  • Associate's degree in an engineering/electrical field of study.
  • Active DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Experience with nuclear weapon design, development, qualification, or production.
  • Experience in assembly, integration, test, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electromechanical assemblies at the system and component levels.
  • Experience working with classified and hazardous materials/hardware.
  • Experience with sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition equipment.
  • Experience with electrical circuits and diagrams.
  • Experience with programming (LabVIEW, etc.).
  • Experience working in laboratory and field environments.
  • Proficiency with computer hardware and software.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

About Our Team

The W80-4 Qualification department is one of several departments leading the system level activities for the W80-4 Life Extension Program (LEP) program at Sandia National Laboratories. We're currently in the Development Engineering phase of the program. The W80-4 systems team consists of integrated departments in NM and CA that plan, coordinate, and execute the Sandia National Laboratories design, development, and qualification activities associated with the W80-4 LEP within Sandia and with external partners and customers. The W80-4 System Qualification Department leads the planning and execution of W80-4 system qualification, hardware management and assembly, Pantex production plant integration, and various other system level responsibilities. We also lead these efforts working with a variety partners both within and external to Sandia.
Organization 8264 is part of the California team leading the W80-4 LEP. This department is responsible for the W80-4 Hardware Management & Assembly operations in CA, and for developing and maintaining the Electrical Functional Test and Environmental Testing capabilities in the SNL/CA site. This department is also responsible for managing building 942.
