VISTA Volunteer Engagement Specialist - Appleton
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s (FAEW) mission is to solve hunger. Two Volunteer Engagement VISTAs will work together on a variety of projects as part of FAEW’s goal to provide food security to thousands of people across Eastern Wisconsin. Volunteer Engagement VISTAs will work independently and as part of a team to expand the breadth and impact of our volunteer program by developing a service learning program, creating resources for our member pantries to create and improve their own volunteer programs, and increase the capacity of FAEW’s own volunteer program.
Volunteerism is an important component of our organization’s work. FAEW is the largest hunger-relief organization in the state, serving 35 of the 72 counties in Wisconsin. In 2020, we worked with more than 14,000 volunteers contributing over 41,000 service hours to our food bank. Such a vast program has the potential to take drastic steps in the fight to solve hunger in our communities.
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about helping people and can bring enthusiasm to their work. Skills such as time management, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, proficient written and verbal skills, and ability to learn new skills are required for the position. You will be part of a team that is dedicated doing meaningful work and celebrate each other’s successes. You will learn about working in the nonprofit sector and develop professional communication and people skills. This VISTA position will give experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds. You will have the opportunity to cultivate a network of relationships with our staff and community partners. Professional development opportunities will be available as well as networking with fellow VISTAs. The VISTA project runs from Spring 2021 to Spring 2022.
