Special Education (Cross-Categorical) and Adolescent Treatment Program Teacher at Jackson Elementary School

SPECIAL EDUCATION (CROSS-CATEGORICAL) AND ADOLESCENT TREATMENT PROGRAM TEACHER
JACKSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL


QUALIFICATIONS:
1.    Must be Wisconsin DPI certified in Special Education Cross-Categorical, Emotional Behavioral Disabilities, and/or Learning Disabilities, and/or Intellectual Disabilities, middle childhood to early adolescent.
2.    Knowledge and experience working with LD, EBD, and ID students.
3.    Preferred training and experience in behavior management.
4.    Able to manage student behavior using de-escalation techniques, following proper risk management procedures, and seeks assistance when needed.
5.    Trained or willing to be trained and able to serve on the CPI non-violent crisis intervention team.
6.    Must be computer literate.
7.    Knowledge and experience with reading and math instruction and a strong background in intervention programs/strategies.
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS – CROSS-CATEGORICAL TEACHER:
Candidates must demonstrate successful experiences with CWD students. Desire and ability to work in a cross-categorical, inclusive delivery model with ID, LD, ED, OI, OHI, and Speech and Language students. Willingness to team-teach with classroom teachers in the EL and regular education setting, including some whole group instruction. Must be knowledgeable in state standards and be able to modify and adapt the curriculum to meet the individual student learning needs. Ability to work with a variety of learning styles, relate to a wide variety of individuals. Ability to be flexible and work well with support staff, parents, and administration. Must be knowledgeable in the IEP process. Willingness to serve on the Building Consultation Team, as needed. Trained or willing to be trained and able to serve on the CPI non-violent crisis intervention team.
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS – TREATMENT PROGRAM TEACHER:
Administers and evaluates appropriate academic assessments per program requirement or as indicated. Manages student behavior using de-escalation techniques. Alerts the hospital manager of safety issues and inappropriate events that negatively impact the students, staff, and school or have the potential to negatively impact the students, staff, and school. Provides for the safety, security, and confidential treatment of students, guests, and staff. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the student served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the student’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each student’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs. Develops supportive, collaborative relationships with all disciplines to promote a positive, team-oriented approach to the academic and behavioral needs of our students. The employee must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate the knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the student’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each student’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs. Ability to work with a challenging student population exhibiting ED, LD, and EBD issues.
 
Work as a bridge between the school district and the hospital. Be able to obtain information regarding students’ specialized programming at school, IEP, and school behaviors. Work with hospital staff to come up with alternative assignments for students who are not from the district, or don’t have any assignments at this time from the school. Regularly meet with hospital staff and offer information related to students’ academic endeavors.
