Epidemiologist - Pandemic

Located within the Public Health Division of Walworth County's Health & Human Services in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, this position is responsible for studying the occurrence of COVID-19 and other communicable disease-related conditions or events in defined populations in order to implement effective prevention and control measures.
 

PLEASE NOTE: This position is being added to help Walworth County’s Public Health Division plan for and respond to the increased operational demands caused by the current pandemic. This position will focus on bringing additional capacity and support to our existing teams. This position has been approved by the County Board until pandemic concerns end or funding ceases. At such time that this position is no longer necessary due to changes in needs or budget, it will be eliminated.

Analyze surveillance data, such as health indicators, risk factors and disease surveillance information related to COVID-19 and other communicable diseases.
 
Analyze programmatic and service-related data, such as reporting patterns and communicable disease outbreaks, including COVID-19.
 
Design, coordinate, and manage special surveillance during emerging COVID-19 and other communicable disease events.
 
Evaluate quality and efficiency of surveillance systems; make recommendations for enhancements; monitor trends and risk factors, strengths and weaknesses, and so forth.
 
Support epidemiology program compliance with reporting and evaluations.
 
Develop protocols to respond to investigation of emergent health situations related to COVID-19 and other communicable diseases.
 
Perform complex statistical and epidemiologic analyses related to COVID-19 and other communicable diseases.
 
Maintain periodic reporting to various stakeholders.
 
Write technical reports and grants.
 
Develop and conduct various trainings related to epidemiological and program evaluation related issues.
 
Provide consultation and assistance to educate state and local health stakeholders in the development of COVID-19 and other communicable disease surveillance systems.
 
Provide technical assistance on issues regarding surveillance, interventions, epidemiology, program evaluation, statistical analysis, and data interpretation related to COVID-19 and other communicable diseases.
 
Conduct COVID-19 and other communicable disease prevention, health promotion, programs, and public policy presentations.
 
Serve as a resource and advocate for health and health literacy in the county and promote healthcare equity, quality and accessibility for all including vulnerable populations. 
 
Respond to inquiries from the general public and provide technical assistance and consultation to community agencies and health care providers regarding public health programs and substance abuse prevention strategies.
 
Contribute community health planning expertise to the department’s community needs assessment process, health improvement goal setting, identification of health policy and action options, program development and creation of monitoring and evaluation plans.
 
Participate in department and community emergency response training and drills in support of public health emergency and disaster preparedness consistent with job classification.
 
Perform public health emergency response duties as assigned and consistent with training provided, in response to threats to the public’s health consistent with job classification.
 
Contribute to a work environment where continuous quality improvements in service and professional practice are pursued.
 
Adhere to ethical and legal principles and department policy in the collection, maintenance, use and dissemination of data and information.
 
Ensure fiscal responsibility while managing budgets for multiple grants and contracts.
 
Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.
