Design Engineering Co-op Position (Winter Term)

Job Brief
We are looking for a creative mechanical, agricultural or manufacturing engineering student with the ability to assist in the innovative design solutions for various agricultural products. The candidate will work in a small team environment to help take a project from the conceptual design stage to completion. A wide range of responsibilities and experiences are necessary throughout a project, including design conception and development, manufacturing and testing, and costing and marketing analysis. Opportunities for full-time employment exist at the conclusion of the Co-op term.

Qualifications and Desired Skills
·        Actively enrolled to complete a BS Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Agricultural Engineering (exceptions can be made based on experience and other positive attributes)
·        A willingness to learn and to grow with J&M, with the eventual goal of obtaining full time status after graduation.
·        A good understanding of agricultural or heavy equipment
·        Good communication and organizational skills
·        Creativity and analytical skills
·        Understanding of core concepts including statics, mechanics, kinematics and materials science
·        Work well as part of a team
·        Ability to navigate Microsoft Office (excel/macro experience helpful)
·        3D Modeling experience (Solidworks and Solidworks FEA helpful)
·        A desire towards continual improvement of designs for durability and functionality
·        Hands-on with basic knowledge of shop tools
·        Understanding of Hydraulic Systems
·        Self-starter
Responsibilities
·        Work in a team environment to design products within set parameters and requirements
·        Consider costs to manufacture to reduce material and labor costs
·        Use Solidworks to develop complete and organized 3D models of final design with the team
·        Look for ways to re-use current components or parts to reduce complexity or part proliferation
·        Work with manufacturing to see the design into production, including first prototype builds and manufacturing fixtures
·        Conduct in field testing, evaluate results and modify designs to eliminate malfunctions
·        Build and manage Bill of Materials
·        Produce 2D drawings from 3D models for manufacturing
·        Work with manufacturing to update and preform general maintenance for designs already in production
·        Offer technical support to customers and relay potential product issues to the team leader
