Judicial Assistant

Jefferson County Clerk of Courts manages the general legal proceedings and business operations of the Jefferson County Circuit Courts, which is responsible for all state, county, and some municipal actions as provided under criminal, traffic, family, civil, juvenile, and probate law. It is the goal of the Clerk of Courts to provide superior justice related services to all participants and the general public.
 
The Clerk of Courts is currently hiring a Judicial Assistant to provide administrative and general support to Judges and other court-related personnel.
 
With excellent attention to detail, organization, and multi-tasking skills, you will be successful in this role by completing the below key tasks and responsibilities:
·       Draft documents and correspondence such as opinions, decisions, reports, dispositions, memoranda, agendas, and orders, relating to routine matters for judges’ signatures. 
·       Route various pleadings, letters, and other documents to the Judges with appropriate files and carries out the next course of action after the Judge’s review.
·       Manage scheduling multiple court calendars within required deadlines for hearings, trials, conferences, and appointments for the Judges and Court Commissioners, as well as scheduling for phone, video conferencing and Zoom hearings. Schedule inmate phone, video or Zoom appearances.
·       Prepare court proceedings notices and distributes to parties involved. Prepare, maintain and distribute agendas for Security Committee, CJCC and other committee meetings.
·       Update computer files regarding proceedings dates, involved parties, and relevant information such as address, attorney representation, interpreter needs, etc.
·       Variety of other tasks necessary with details provided on the posted job description
 
Starting wage: $20.60/hour
Hours: 40 hours/week

Qualifications Needed:
·       High school diploma or equivalent required with three years related experience and/or training; or associate degree and one year experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
·       Notary Public
 
Qualifications Preferred:
·       Bachelor’s degree
·       Paralegal experience
