Operations Services division of Direct Care & Treatment (DCT) provides foundational services to each of the DCT core services including Forensics, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Services, Community Based Services, Minnesota Sex Offender Program and Ambulatory clinics. Operation Services consists of many departments which are shared throughout these core services to ensure those served receive the highest quality care. Operation Services doesn’t work for just one program – Operation Services works for many.
This vacancy is located within the Minnesota Sex Offender Program campus. The Minnesota Sex Offender Program serves people who are court ordered to receive sex offender treatment via the civil commitment process.
Job Summary
The Building Utilities Mechanic performs installation, maintenance, and repairs on water, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, electrical and laundry/kitchen equipment for the Moose Lake campus of the Minnesota Sex Offender Program. This includes responsibility for determining work methods and procedures, providing advanced assistance to the specific trades areas, and performing the duties of those trades area staff who are on leave or otherwise unavailable so the day-to-day operations of the facility are maintained. 
Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, electrical, laundry/kitchen equipment and refrigeration to the physical plant so that all areas of the facility are kept in repair
  • Assisting other skilled craft workers including plumbers and mechanical trades to maintain and repair systems which directly impact the operation and security of the facility which includes domestic water, sanitary and storm sewer systems, fire sprinklers, and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) piping systems
  • Assisting in the maintenance and repair of facility underground utilities within the Moose Lake campus property
  • Maintaining facility operations by assisting other trades areas in the completion of work requests, preventative maintenance and construction projects

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Must meet the following qualifications listed below:
  • One of the following licenses: Journeyman or Master Plumber license or a boiler license special engineers or higher
  • Knowledge and skills in the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades staff in the completion of assigned projects
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor trades plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner
  • Skills in using hand and power tools and other trades equipment
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties
  • The ability to provide work direction to unskilled helpers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education, training or experience with HVAC systems
  • Plumbing, HVAC, building automation, and/or commercial kitchen and laundry repair experience
