This is a full-time, limited duration employment opportunity for anyone to apply. Current State of Oregon employees may have an additional option as a job rotation. This position is represented by a union. 

Limited duration positions are benefit eligible positions with a designated maximum length of service. This position is expected to last for 24 months; however, it could end at any time or be extended.

What will you do?
As a Health Equity Epidemiologist, you will complete surveillance activities and epidemiologic studies for the COVID-19 pandemic focused on health equity. Responsibilities include planning, developing, conducting and preparing reports of epidemiological studies. In addition, you will collaborate with the CRRU Equity and Engagement Branch, local and tribal health departments, other state agencies, external agencies and partner with key community stakeholders to develop, provide and evaluate COVID-19 guidance and activities specific to disproportionately affected communities.

In addition, this position will develop and maintain data systems with an expanded understanding of structural and intermediary determinants of health and equity, and analyze data effectively in order to monitor trends and impacts of social determinants of health and health inequities as related to COVID-19. You will coordinate the work of staff involved in epidemiologic studies focused on disproportionately affected populations and provide consultation and assistance to others. This position will support the analysis and interpretation of data, assist local and tribal health authorities with outbreak investigation.

What are we looking for?
Requested Skills

  • Minimum requirements: A Master’s degree in Community Public Health, Epidemiology, Research Analyst or a closely related field AND three years of epidemiological, community health, or research analysis experience of which one year must have been in a supervising, lead worker, or project leadership role; OR A Bachelor's degree in Community Public Health, Epidemiology, Research Analyst or a closely related field AND four years of epidemiological, community health, or research analysis experience of which one year must have been in a supervising, lead worker, or project leadership role.
  • Experience applying epidemiologic principles and coordinating surveillance system in infectious diseases.
  • Experience providing technical consultation and collaborating with different agencies and other partners.
  • Understanding of anti-racism, the root causes of inequities and the social determinants of health.
  • Knowledge of social epidemiology principles.
  • Ability to effectively partner with multiple sectors and manage complex projects involving public health, race and health equity.
  • Proficiency with MS Access, Epi-Info, SPSS or R, and FileMaker Pro.
  • Experience evaluating epidemiologic data to develop valid interpretations of the data.
  • Experience writing scientific reports and preparing graphic summaries of surveillance data.
  • Experience presenting scientific data verbally in understandable terms.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with personal, professional, or other experience working directly with diverse populations, specifically racially, ethnically, culturally, linguistically, gender- and ability- diverse community members.
  • Ability to interview subjects by telephone is required.
  • Current driver’s license and a good driving record is required as overnight travel throughout the state may be necessary.
  • Experience promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
