Production Supervisor

Summary

The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for planning and directing the operators and machining centers for a growing contract/custom build to print manufacturing company. Activities/trades managed are CNC and manual milling, grinding, planning, groove, profile, and lathe. Materials machined include carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum and plastic.
Duties and responsibilities
 
  • Supervises machinists, and/or technicians through all phases of production in accordance with established schedules.
  • Plans and directs subordinates to achieve assignments using established guidelines, procedures and policies, and offers guidance and coaching to manufacturing personnel.
  • Participates with management in developing/updating operating procedures and training programs and participates in the selection, retention and development of staff.
  • Develops up to date accurate documentation and reports to reflect machine shop activities.
  • Participates in designing and building tooling needed for the production process.
  • Manages and directs the activities of the machining and other areas as assigned.
  • Reviews engineering drawings and production planning for conformance in all mechanical manufacturing departments.
  • Applies knowledge of production planning, scheduling of workload, tooling requirements and machine maintenance to ensure a smooth flow of work through the departments.
  • Evaluates and determines staffing requirements and technical capabilities of personnel within the function.
  • Participates in the selection, retention and development of personnel including interviewing, performance appraisals and promotion recommendations.
  • Develops programs and procedures for the training of personnel.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Collaborates with Manufacturing Engineering, and Shipping to achieve schedule and on time delivery.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming including G-codes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications

·        Associates in Machine Tool
·        3-5 or more years’ experience in a manufacturing Leadership role.
·        Journeyman’s card
·        5+ years operating CNC machines

Preferred Qualifications                                                                                                                                                                                                              

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Operations MGMT
·        Black Belt or Lean Manufacturing experience.


Physical Demands
 
This position requires the ability to stand, talk, hear, reach with arms and hands, and use hands to grasp, hold, or handle items, and stand and walk. The position also requires the ability to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
This position requires lifting up to 25 pounds, lifting up to 50 pounds, and team lift up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, far, and field of vision.
The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas which requires use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses. In addition to wearing safety glasses, ear protection and steel toe shoes, these environments may include climbing to different heights / elevations and walking on wet / slippery / uneven surfaces, stepping over objects, etc. which will require good physical balance. 
Team member may also encounter environments with exposure to unpleasant odors which will require physical ability to maintain composure.
