The Evidence-Based Cybersecurity Training and Mentorship Program for Students
The Evidence-Based Cybersecurity Research Group is recruiting highly motivated students with strong technical and computing skills, combined with a curiosity for cybersecurity. Our innovative, virtual internship program will introduce students to the latest cybersecurity tools, while giving students practical experience working in security teams in leading companies or law enforcement agencies, one-on-one mentorship, and the opportunity to complete an individual project in partnership with a practicing cybersecurity expert over the course of the internship.
The EBCS Training and Mentorship Program is funded by a 2-year grant from the National Sciences Foundation. Interns will be placed in security groups within companies or agencies and will be matched with a mentor. In addition, interns will attend weekly workshops where they will be introduced to the latest cybersecurity tools and will learn to develop a research project to test these tools. In addition, interns will receive a $2,400 stipend for participating in the 2-month virtual program.
Program Dates: June 7 – July 30, 2021
Ideal candidates for the role will possess as many of these qualifications as possible:
- Must be a U.S. resident and have work authorization in the U.S.
- Rising undergraduate seniors, Masters students or May 2021 graduates
- Technical experience
- Linux / Unix systems and tools, including command line
- Having a primary scripting language (e.g. Perl, Ruby, Python)
- Evidence of Computer Science and/or Computer Information Systems coursework
- Evidence of research skills
- Personal experience / qualities
- Strong analytical, structured problem solving, and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work on a team and independently as needed
- Ability to adapt to quickly changing project requirements and feedback
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Passion to learn and curiosity for cybersecurity
