Marketing and Promotions Internship

About the Organization:
The Eau Claire Express begin their 16th year in the summer collegiate Northwoods League. The Northwoods League is comprised of teams of the top college players from across North America. Each team is operated similar to a professional minor league team, providing development opportunities to players, front office staff members, interns and coaches. The Express are operated similarly to other Northwoods League teams in that their players use wooden bats, experience long road trips and overnight stays and play nightly in front of thousands of fans. The Eau Claire Express play at Carson Park located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. 

About the Position:
Marketing/Public Relations interns play a large role in working with Express game sponsors and executing their partnership agreements. In addition, interns will coordinate on-field promotions, organize details of pregame activities, contribute to a positive fan experience at Carson Park and learn all aspects of what goes into the day-to-day operation of a baseball team during the season. Additional details of what is incorporated in the internship positions available in this department are below. The position begins in mid May and goes through mid August of 2021.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The duties of a Marketing/PR Intern may include any or all of the following:
  • Coordination of nine or more game-day sponsorships 
  • Contact assigned sponsors before the season begins 
  • Set up sponsor giveaway, first pitch participant and public address announcements 
  • Assist in promoting sponsor’s evening 
  • Cater to sponsor’s needs before, during and after event 
  • Follow up with sponsor and send proof of performance in days following event 
  • Keep a record of details regarding night (contact, giveaway, feedback, etc.) 
  • Ticketing System
  • Assist Express front office with walk-in and phone sales at the office
  • Take part in creating, promoting and executing one theme night during the season 
  • Work with other three marketing interns to plan night 
  • Promote night in the Chippewa Valley through various channels 
  • Collaborate with other interns to complete a report detailing the night’s processes 
  • On-field promotions 
  • Coordinate each between-inning game with respective sponsor 
  • Secure prizes from sponsor for all game participants 
  • Help gather and direct contestants 
  • Promo setup and take down 
  • Organize all pre-game events (First Pitch, National Anthem, Little Leagues) 
  • Stadium Music
  • Update music selections on computer and oversee part-time employee operator
  • Public Address script 
  • Generate all announcements read over the public address system 
  • Create announcements promoting upcoming games 
  • Work with each public address sponsor on creating announcement 
  • Stadium Signage 
  • Create and hang promotional signage for all upcoming games 
  • Create and hang signs reserving seating areas for all group outings 
  • Trax Kids Club 
  • Maintain database of current members 
  • Distribute club membership perks to all members 
  • Secure promotional items for various game dates for members 
  • Schedule and promote “Trax Kids Club Day” at one home game 
  • Apparel Control 
  • Keep inventory of all apparel and souvenir items 
  • Generate sales reports for each game on apparel and souvenir sales 
  • Work with Express front office staff on reordering of items 
  • Assure that apparel wagon remains well stocked and appears presentable 
  • Little League Outings 
  • Contact coaches to schedule outings at each game 
  • Obtain team roster and organize pre-game introductions 
  • 50/50 Raffle Sales 
  • Assist Public Relations interns with sales of 50/50 raffle tickets 
  • Staff prize wheel table if needed 
  • Pursue prospects and secure clients for group sales at Carson Park
  • Assist with stadium setup for all Express home games at direction of Stadium Operations Interns
  • Assist with everyday office operation
  • Other duties as assigned

Expectations/Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and manage multiple task at once in a fast paced environment 
The Express has a history of staff development, with previous full-time interns moving on to positions with other organizations including: Milwaukee Brewers Ticket Sales Representative, Texas Tech University Assistant Ticket Manager, Reno Aces (Arizona Diamondbacks AAA Affiliate) Sr. Director of Corporate Partnerships and Minnesota Twins New Business Development Representative.
