Internship Description
Each summer, FELC offers paid internships to college-aged students. Together with FELC’s full-time staff, interns are the leaders for camps, trips, events, and service projects throughout the summer. If you are a college-aged student, the internship is a chance for you to deepen your relationship with God, develop your leadership skills, and gain valuable job experience. It can also be a great opportunity to discern if church ministry is a career you would like to pursue.

The History of the Program
In 1992, First English Lutheran Church established a Summer Intern Ministry, a non-profit discipleship ministry for young adults ages 18-25. The vision of this ministry is to provide one of the few opportunities for emerging men and women to gain a deeper understanding of service in the community and beyond and vocation in the church. Since 1992 this vision has been realized in ways that could not have been imagined.

Over 130 college-age individuals have had the opportunity to spend a summer experiencing worship, outreach, learning, and fellowship in the congregation, community, and global initiatives. With programming open to all Fox Valley youth, the summer interns have touched the lives of well over 2,000 youth since 1992. Locally, they have worked with the Appleton Area School District, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and a feeding program for low-income families sponsored by the church. A wonderful relationship has been formed and nurtured between the interns and the residents at Fox Valley Lutheran Homes. Another highlight is the creation of the "Seeds of Grace" Learning Garden on the corner of North and Durkee streets. The interns have held musical fundraisers benefitting NAMI and The Carbone Cancer Center in Madison. On a national level, this group has traveled and done ministry in places like Montana, New Orleans, LA, Denver, St. Louis and Atlanta. On a global level these young people have worked with “Compassion International”, the “One” Campaign, and “Feed My Starving Children.” In addition to the experience of serving locally, nationally and internationally, these types of service opportunities allow the interns to get a sense of the various aspects of working in the church, and also helps them to realize the importance of living and working together in Christ and with one another.
