Product Line Strategy and Innovation Intern

Job Summary: The Cooper Standard Product Innovation Team in Livonia, MI has an exciting chance for an Intern to provide support for the Summer 2021 Program. This position will provide you with the opportunity to understand and support the Cooper Standard side of Product Innovation and Product Strategy. If selected, you will conduct a market trend analysis in the Electric Vehicle, light-weighting, and fluid handling per PLS strategy and you will also conduct a competitor evaluation of Electric Vehicle architecture. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist product strategy market studies focused on automotive trends including EV and light-weighting
  • Perform benchmarking and data collection in support of market trend analysis
  • Assist with prototype development and material properties evaluations
  • Support team in the optimization of plastic compounds, identifying process improvements in extrusion and molding for better performance
  • Assist plastic extrusion trials
  • Preparation and testing of samples on a variety of lab equipment
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed
 
Requirements:
  • Must have met the credit requirements to achieve Senior level student status prior to May 2021, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 G.P.A.

  • Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Critical Thinking: Using logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Minimum G.P.A. of 3.4 is preferred
  • Worked with Robotics in the past is preferred
 
Work Environment/Conditions:
  • Professional Office Environment
  • Must wear proper PPE while on manufacturing floor
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when needed
