Working in state government is an important role and rewarding experience. The Administrative Services Division of the Department of Labor and Regulation is looking for a knowledgeable and experienced individual to lead the accounts payable team of the department. This position works with the department's finance officer, along with the Cabinet Secretary and division directors, to appropriately spend funds granted from the State and federal governments. This position manages federal grants, oversees invoice and voucher processing, prepares the Department's financial reports submitted to the State, and provides guidance to department employees regarding federal grant allowable costs.
This position works as an employee of the Department of Labor & Regulation in the administrative office in Pierre. Occasional travel to other communities across the state along with one out-of-state trip annually are on an as needed basis. 
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.  
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Accounting, or other related financial field;
or candidates must have over 5 years experience with South Dakota accounting procedures. 
Knowledge of:  
  • South Dakota Accounting System
  • Federal Uniform Grant Guidance
  • Microsoft Excel including manipulating queries and tables
Skill to:
  • Close attention to details
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing 
Ability to:  
  • Detect and research account errors
  • Manage information coming from multiple sources and discern the correct course of action
  • Switch quickly between multiple tasks
