This is a full-time, exempt, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year position. Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., some flexibility required. Madison College offers a generous benefit program including health and dental benefits. The employee selected will serve a twelve (12) month introductory period. This position does not offer a relocation package. This posting may be used to fill similar vacancies that occur within six months of the closing date.

ORGANIZATIONAL FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIPS:
This position serves as a generalist for student support in the areas of academic, retention, career and transfer advising and disability resource services. This position will specifically provide:
• Comprehensive academic advising support for the Reedsburg Campus
• Disability resource service for Reedsburg and Portage campuses. Some travel between campuses will be required.

This position is housed within Disability Resource Services at the Reedsburg campus and works closely with all Northern Region and Metro campus staff, faculty and administrators.
This position reports to the Director of Disability Resource and Testing and Assessment Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Leadership and Coordination
• Acts as a liaison for faculty relations, referrals, program updates and advising services for identified academic programs and the Reedsburg Campus community.
• Troubleshoots advising-related inquiries with designated faculty or service units (admissions, Program Curriculum HUB, enrollment, etc.), as necessary.
• Utilizes retention data to recommend advising and disability resource-related activities, interventions and support services at the Reedsburg Campus.
• Regularly collaborates with other advisors and DRS colleagues to represent and promote disability resource, academic, career, retention and transfer advising services.
2. Academic Advising
• Holistically advises students about career options, admission requirements, programs of study, transfer opportunities, degree requirements and overall academic planning. Enters student contacts in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system(s) within 24 hours of contact.
• Develops, coordinates, and presents information individually and in group settings (classroom visits, workshops, advising & registration events, etc.).
• Serves as an Advising liaison on College projects, committees and workgroups.
• Resolves student questions or concerns regarding academic policy and procedures and refers to appropriate resources when necessary.
3. Disability Resource Services
• Advises and coordinates programs and services for students with disabilities on academic, career, and personal matters using a developmental approach. Enters student contacts in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system(s) within 24 hours of contact.
• Provides intake and assessment of need services (“transition” into college) by reviewing documentation and engaging students with disabilities in an interactive interview process to determine and authorize appropriate accommodations.
• Collaborates and consults with instructional, student development and community agency staff in providing designated referral and support services as well as assessing the psychosocial impact of the disability on the student's academic progress and on those with whom he/she interacts.
• Evaluates and continuously assesses social, medical, vocational and psychiatric information of prospective and current students with disabilities and monitors student academic progress toward educational goals. Consults with relevant professionals with appropriate releases of information as needed.
• Works collaboratively with counselors of the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and other community-based organizations in the implementation and planning efforts on behalf of students with disabilities.
• Student Retention/Case Management
4. Supports students in planning their educational experience including identifying academic support needs, time management and related strategies for success.
5. Develops academic plans for students on College SAP (Academic Alert and Probation) and students on Financial Aid SAP (Suspension).
6. Assists with Early Alerts (EA) from faculty and staff to successful resolution (assess situation, determine possible solutions); monitors progress; communicates with students and faculty; tracks EA data, completes processing and reports.
7. Provides information and referrals for personal and academic support services including counseling, Veteran Resource Services, mentoring, financial planning, employment support, first-generation services, conflict resolution, tutoring and supplemental instruction.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with individuals at all levels in the organization - students, employees, and the public.
• Ability to travel to various locations within the district and work varying and flexible schedules (evenings and weekends) to meet staffing demands.
• Demonstrated knowledge of developmental, academic and career advising skills for liberal arts and technical/occupational program student with ability to be flexible and adapt to a fast-paced, high-volume unit with a commitment to excellent student service and professional development.
• Thorough knowledge of physical and mental disabilities, including physical and functional capabilities, psychosocial aspects, and medical terminology as well as experience assessing and providing accommodations for persons with disabilities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field. Master's degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work, Special Education preferred.
**Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement must be in addition to the minimum years required for the position.
2. Four (4) years (8,000 hours) of directly related work experience in a post-secondary academic, retention, career and/or transfer advising setting or student affairs related setting.
3. One (1) year (2,000 hours) experience with determining and providing accommodations for students with disabilities in an educational setting.
4. Global Career Development Facilitator certification or the ability to attain certification within twelve months of employment (this training is currently provided in-house at the college) preferred.
5. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
6. Professional experience and/or a deep understanding of the Native American Culture (specifically the Ho Chunk Nation) is preferred.
