WASTEWATER OPERATIONS FIELD SUPERVISOR

The City of Naperville's Water & Wastewater Utility is one of the state’s largest combined utility systems, operating both a water distribution system and a sanitary district with wastewater treatment. The Water Utility consists of more than 1250 miles of main, serving over 43,000 customers in Naperville and in Warrenville (for their wastewater only). Within a territory area of approx. 46 square miles, we serve a population of 162,000+. The utility is known as a leader and innovator in asset renewal, sanitary sewer rehabilitation and maintenance activities. 
A skilled & talented professional is sought for the vital position of Wastewater Operations Field Supervisor to supervise the operation of an advanced wastewater treatment plant as directed by the section supervisor and division manager. The Field Supervisor is a working foreman-like role, providing daily direction to Water Utility Technicians (or Wastewater Operators). The Wastewater Operations section consists of a Section Supervisor, 2 Field Supervisors, and 8 Utility Technician IVs.  
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Wastewater Operations Section Supervisor, the Field Supervisor supervises the daily work performed by wastewater operators and by summer employees, as directed by the section supervisor and/or division manager.
The Field Supervisor coordinates biosolids processing and disposal activities to assure both cost efficiency and compliance with applicable regulations; assists with the direction and monitoring of activities of contractors performing services such as painting, biosolids removal, road repair, excavation and earthwork, etc.; and assists with the preparation & administration of the section budget. 
The Field Supervisor also assists with wastewater operator training and safety programs; monitors the performance of wastewater operators & temporary employees to assure compliance with work rules, procedures, and productivity standards; and prepares & updates overtime records, staffing schedules, operational data and other routine and/or special reports.
The incumbent is additionally responsible for obtaining competitive prices for and the timely ordering of the goods & services utilized by the SWRC’s operations section.
This is a union job. The six (6) Field Supervisors employed by the Water & Wastewater Utility in its various divisions/sections are represented by the International Union of Equipment Operators, Local 150. The wage rate quoted above is per the current collective bargaining agreement.
Qualifications:
To qualify, (at a minimum) you must possess:
·         A high school diploma, plus additional specialized and formal training.  
·         Minimum 3 years of related work experience   
·         IEPA Class 2 Wastewater Operator Certification
·         A valid State of Illinois Class D Driver’s License
Preferred candidates will possess previous supervisory experience, and a related AS or BS degree (environmental science, chemistry, or biology).  
Candidates receiving additional consideration will possess knowledge of physical, chemical, & biological process associated with wastewater treatment, and operating knowledge of process equipment, computers, City purchasing procedure, and union contract administration. They will have demonstrated skills in effective communication, providing direction to personnel, and in reading drawings/blueprints. Similarly, they will possess demonstrated abilities to supervise, train & direct work activities of personnel, and to handle stressful or emergency situations and make decisions.
