SR. TECHNICIAN - TECHNICIAN - AUTOMOTIVE

Job Summary:

Support the maintenance, repair, installation and construction of new test facilities and equipment. Complete training related to test cell calibrations for equipment, hardware, sampling equipment, and instrumentation following established calibration procedures. Operate the test cell and emissions sampling carts and accurately monitor and record critical parameters and identify out of tolerance data. Follow and adhere to written and verbal instructions from supervision, project leaders, and designated personnel. Interface with various computer software and control programs to input data, retrieve data and adjust engine, test cell and sample system parameters. Efficiently use and safely select hand and power tools. Operate company vehicles, golf carts and forklifts. Overtime, shift work, and limited travel is required. Perform other assigned duties.

Education/Experience:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of automotive and diesel engine repair or related experience. Certificate or Associates degree in auto/diesel mechanics is preferred. Continuing education may be considered in lieu of some work experience. Must have an understanding and related knowledge of automotive and diesel engine operations. Must have experience with engine diagnostic procedures and repairs. Basic understanding with basic level experience with plumbing, wiring, fabrication and welding is preferred. Must be skilled with the use of hand and power tools and must be able to operate and interface with all tools and equipment in a safe manner. Must be able to interpret and follow written and verbal work instructions and communicate effectively. Knowledge and experience with computers and Microsoft software is desired. Must have the ability to work productively and professionally with clients and SwRI staff in a team environment or solo if necessary. Must have the ability to work without supervision if necessary. Must have the ability to learn and retain new skills, procedures and techniques required for laboratory operations. Requires the ability to work effectively and safely in a laboratory environment frequently interfacing with engines and related hardware, test cell equipment, instrumentation, fuel systems and computers. Must be able to assist with the installation of engines into test cells and perform engine maintenance, repairs and modifications to specified standards. Must be able to work in an environment with heat and noise and must be able to follow all safety policies and practices including the frequent use of Personal Protective Equipment. Shift work required. Must pass SwRI Mechanical Assessment test. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
