Institute for Urban Education Internship
The Institute for Urban Education is a UW System program that places elementary and special education teacher candidates in urban settings to learn how to be culturally responsive teachers.
IUE interns earn a $5,000 stipend during their internship, which takes the place of the student teaching requirement. The IUE will provide university supervision and student teaching seminars. IUE candidates will get an automatic job interview upon successful completion of their student teaching. Those who receive a teaching position with the district after their internship receive professional development support from the IUE during their first semester of full-time teaching.
In fall 2020 and spring of 2021, interns will be placed in Racine Unified School District, which is approximately 30 miles from Milwaukee. To apply for this opportunity, candidates should contact their home campus clinical coordinator for approval to apply.
