Purchasing Agent Intern - Spring 2020

As the Purchasing Agent Intern you will be managing key supplier relationships, establishing new relationships, develop initiatives to add value and drive cost down, and support annual goals. Candidates must be able to understand product specifications, research suppliers/subcontractors, obtain pricing, evaluate quotes and expedite orders. 

Candidates should have solid computer skills. You will help design and implement efficient systems, processes and procedures on top of the constantly evolving systems, processes and procedures already in place to keep pace with an ever expanding infrastructure and business opportunities. The preferred candidate will have an advanced knowledge of purchasing module ERP functionality. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establish successful relationships with suppliers.
  • Liaise with vendors, setting up purchase orders, and negotiating cost of all purchased and raw goods.
  • Analyze market and supplier delivery systems in order to assess present and future material availability.
  • Participate in the development of specifications for products or substitute materials.
  • Participates in meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Identify and assist with resolving issues that delay material deliveries.
  • Resolve vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers.
  • Organize and maintain an accurate ERP Purchasing module making sure the data has complete integrity at all times.
  • Manage quality throughout the supply chain to ensure product receipts meet company standards and take effective actions to improve quality when standards are not met.
  • Review sourcing request specifications for raw materials, components, products, equipment or buildings and ensure that these items being sourced with the best quality at the right price.
  • Work closely with plant production staff.
  • Work closely with Production, R&D, Engineering, Shipping, and Marketing and Sales personnel to resolve problems with supply, suppliers, and transportation providers. to manage requirements and ensure uninterrupted plant operation.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in supply chain or business management OR 3-5 years related experience in a procurement management role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Freedom to travel as required to supplier sites. 
  • Experience in ERP system related to purchasing modules which include purchase requisitions, maintaining purchase orders, and other relevant data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
