MDOT Section Manager - State Administrative Manager

This position functions as the section manager of the Roadside Design Staff, Road/Utility Design and Geometrics Units. This position has responsibility for the administration of assigned projects through subordinate staff. The Roadside Design Staff are responsible for managing the Rest Area Program including landscape projects for the Five Year Plan; is the primary resource for department efforts for Context Sensitive Solutions and Complete Streets; provides technical expertise for slope restoration; and provides expertise for architectural aesthetic analysis and design for structures. The Road/Utility Design Unit is responsible for furnishing construction plans and contract documents for transportation projects including road improvements, water main, sanitary sewer design, and rest area utilities and is responsible for managing the statewide Freeway Lighting Program. The Geometrics Unit works to determine geometric improvements that enhance traffic safety and operational efficiency in the MDOT program and serve as the statewide resource for geometric standards for MDOT. 

This position will participate in active committees and lead roles including RAOT, WRSC, SDAT and in reviewing and approving design exceptions. 

This position is also responsible for fostering, support, and overseeing strategic planning for these units and within the Design Division. This position will select and assign staff ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring and promotions; identify staff development needs and ensure that training is obtained; ensure that proper labor relations and conditions of employment are maintained.
