We currently serve grades 4-6. We will add one grade per year until we graduate our first class of college ready twelfth graders in 2026. We will have grades 4-7 during the 2020-2021 school year. Job Description

The Special Education Teacher is a full-time teaching position and member of the Student Support Team. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for collaborating with the Special Education Coordinator and execution of IEPs and 504 plans for students with special needs. This person will have an instructional role with the school, co-teaching and providing pull-out services. At Buffalo Collegiate we are committed to the rapid growth and development of our teachers, who receive frequent professional development opportunities and engage in regular cycles of observation and feedback with their instructional coach. Teachers are responsible for the intellectual preparation for each lesson, building strong and positive relationships with students and families, using data to tailor their instruction, and actively collaborating with their colleagues and grade level teams, particularly around lesson planning and norming instructional practices.

● Reinforce a disciplined culture of high academic and behavioral standards.
● Collaborate with the Special Education Coordinator on the creation, execution, and modification of IEPs and 504 plans. Communicate with the District’s Committee for Special Education (CSE) as needed.
● Create and execute lessons for small groups of students that meet their IEP goals.
● Collaborate with content area teachers to create and execute lessons that support all students, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.
● Collaborate with Special Education Coordinator and content area teachers in coordinating schedules, modifications, and accommodations for all students with special needs.
● Assist Special Education Coordinator in facilitating professional development related to modifications and accommodations for students with special needs.
● Assist in the Response to Intervention (RTI) process and any necessary testing.
● Manage family relationships for students on your caseload who receive special education services.
● Consistently analyze scholar data and engage in self-reflection on practices to ensure students with special needs perform at the same level as general education students.
● Provide students with frequent and accurate behavioral and academic feedback.
● Actively participate in all professional development sessions and weekly coaching sessions, including an annual three-week staff orientation and training during the summer.
● Incorporate feedback from instructional coaches in a timely manner.
● Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.

● Proven track record of supporting students with special needs to achieving high levels of growth (academic and behavioral).
● Minimum two years of Special Education teaching in an urban setting preferred.
● Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s or advanced degree preferred.
New York State Special Education Certification required.
