Underground G&E Service Mechanic Journeyman/Apprentice

Job Responsibilities :
Please note: This position is posted at a Journeyman or Apprentice level, many qualifications listed below apply to Journeyman level candidates.
  • Perform all Journeyman Gas Mechanic duties.
  • Work energized conductors at 300 volts and below phase to phase.
  • Terminate UG secondary cable in meter sockets.
  • Install 200 amp and below, socket type meters.
  • Make final secondary connections/terminations in UG pedestals.
  • Make final secondary connections/terminations in dead front transformers only.
  • Install first section of U-guard/conduit on secondary riser pole.
  • May install primary cables in dead front transformers/junction boxes that have never been energized.
  • Install box pads/basements for junction boxes and single phase transformers.

Job Qualifications :
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Have the ability to safely operate heavy equipment, hand and power tools, and other machinery.
  • Knowledge of confined spaces, trenching and shoring standards.
  • Read and comprehend company operating standards, right to know information, safety rules, and equipment and technical manuals.
  • Must possess good reading and math comprehension skill.
  • Certified in CPR and first aid.
  • Good mechanical ability.
  • Work harmoniously with other employees.
  • Know and practice good public relations.
  • Wear and use all safety equipment.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the physical duties of the position such as: heavy lifting, climbing (stairs and ladders), kneeling, stooping, crawling, reaching, twisting, standing and sitting for periods of time.

Environment: Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Work in confined spaces, heat, cold, fumes, dust, noise and blowing natural gas.
