Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention Epidemiologist Supervisor

The Division of Public Health is accepting applications for a Public Health Epidemiology Supervisor. This position resides in the Communicable Disease Branch within the HIV/STD Surveillance Unit. The primary purpose of this position is to amplify knowledge of the epidemiology of all sexually transmitted infections in North Carolina. This will be achieved by:
  • Management of the team receiving and reviewing sexually transmitted infection (STI) case reports
  • Regular interaction with Field Services staff doing disease intervention work in North Carolina (NC), surveillance staff across reportable diseases, and DHHS and other stakeholders for the populations affected by STIs
  • Epidemiologic analysis of NC STI information based on STI reports as well as regular studies such as BRFSS and special NC-based studies
  • Providing input to guide policy decisions in the Communicable Disease Branch, the Epidemiology Section, the Division of Public Health, and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and to target resource allocation to populations most affected by STIs in North Carolina.
  • Development of and engagement with research collaborations with academic researchers and the CDC
  • Quality improvement for the NC EDSS surveillance software system which receives STI case investigation data
This position will take the lead in the analysis and management of STD surveillance for the North Carolina STD Prevention Cooperative Agreement activities. The position will have routine interaction with a variety of CDB Field Services staff in our 7 Regional Offices. The HIV/STD Surveillance Unit Data Manager will interact on a daily basis with this position. The Field Surveillance Coordinator and the HIV/AIDS, STD, and hepatitis registrars depend on this position for technical and informational guidance in executing their duties.
