Job Summary
Job Summary
This posting will be used to fill up to seven (7) vacancies within our Early Audit 1, Early Audit 2, Early Audit 3, and Early Audit 4 units within the Tax Operations Division. 
Positions in the Early Audit 1 unit will advance the Department of Revenue's mission to achieve compliance with Minnesota tax laws. The auditor in this position will primarily conduct audits of tax returns which include Individual Income, Property Tax Refund, Business, Withholding, Sales, and Special taxes during return processing. The position will provide education and technical assistance to tax payers and participate in other compliance activities. 
Positions in the Early Audit 2, 3, and 4 units will advance the Department of Revenue's mission to achieve compliance with Minnesota tax laws. Auditors in these positions will primarily conduct audits for tax returns which include Individual Income & Property Tax Refund during return processing, provide education and technical assistance to tax payers, and participate in other compliance activities. 

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Any of the following from an accredited college or university:
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Business Management or Marketing;
  • Master's degree in a degree listed above or Taxation; or
  • CPA
AND
Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles as evidenced by academics coursework or related work experience. 
Knowledge of personal computers, including knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet and database applications/software.
Human relations, communication skills necessary to deal with taxpayers and workplace associates in a professional and effective manner.
Problem-solving skills and organizational/planning skills necessary to independently perform the duties of the position.
 
Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following: 
Technical tax knowledge, including court rulings, regulations and administrative policies and procedures. 
Knowledge of electronic filing/processing systems. 
Customer service and interpersonal skills sufficient to interact and negotiate with taxpayers and/or their representatives. 
Knowledge of electronic processing accounting systems. 
Skills in reading comprehension. 
Preferred Qualifications
Experience Auditing
Time management skills as it relates to prioritizing multiple tasks
Oral and written communication skills as it relates to explaining complex topics.
For Early Audit 1 positions: 
Experience with Individual Income Tax.
Experience with Property Tax Refund.
Experience with Business taxes, Sales, Withholding, and Special Taxes.
For Early Audit 2, 3, and 4 positions:
Experience with Individual Income Tax.
Experience with Property Tax Refund.
Physical Requirements
Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as correspondence or laptop computer. Although this job is defined as sedentary, a certain amount of walking and standing is necessary in carrying out job duties. 
Additional Requirements
Prior to an offer of employment, a background check will be conducted. This will include, but is not limited to checking degrees and licensures, criminal history, and tax filing and payment history. All individual income tax filing and payment obligations must be current prior to interviewing for this position.
Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
