Salary:
The entry level position is in pay schedule 14-14. Starting salary is between $49,920 and $58,364, depending on qualifications plus excellent benefits. The senior level position is in pay schedule 14-13. Starting pay is between $62,275 and $80,267 depending upon qualifications plus excellent benefits. Pay for internal candidates is determined per the compensation plan. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Civil Engineer Transportation entry-level employees (less than 4 years experience) will be hired at a pay rate based on years of relevant professional work experience and may be eligible to receive additional pay increases depending upon their level of relevant professional work experience upon hire.

Position Summary:   
Positions are responsible for performing professional engineering entry or senior level duties and applying engineering expertise for multi-modal transportation programs. Positions will work in one of the department’s engineering program areas that may include: Design, Construction, Soils, Planning, Traffic and Maintenance of transportation facilities in addition to other areas of focus.

NOTE: Upon hire, candidate must have graduated, or will be graduating by Summer 2020, from a recognized/ABET accredited college or university with a 4-year degree (or Master's) in civil engineering or a related engineering field, OR, possess a PE (Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin), OR, possess an EIT (Engineer-In-Training) license.
Qualifications:   
In addition to having graduated from a recognized college or university with a 4-year degree (or Master's or Ph.D.) in civil engineering or a related engineering field, OR, possessing a PE (Registration as a Professional Engineer), OR, possessing an EIT (Engineer-In-Training) license, to be qualified at the Senior level, candidates must have at least 4 years of professional engineering experience after receiving their 4-year degree from an ABET accredited university.
In order to be well qualified, candidates will have:

  • General knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to the various transportation programs listed above 
  • Reading & math comprehension. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills. 
  • Analytical and problem solving skills and techniques.
  • Interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
