Administrative Summer Intern - Technical Illustrator

Ball Aerospace 2020 Summer Intern Program:
The Ball Aerospace Internship Program is a 10-week summer program that provides interns with practical experience working on relevant projects while working with designated mentors; access to state-of-the-art equipment; a competitive wage; relocation reimbursement; in-house training; group activities; possible future employment and the ability to participate in the Ball Aerospace Remote Sensing Team (BIRST) program to build and launch a rocket or high-altitude balloon. At the conclusion of your internship, you will be required to prepare and deliver a formal presentation of your project work to your respective department.

What You’ll Do:
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to create graphics and illustrations for company publications and communications channels, including any of the following:
  • New business proposals
  • Technical white papers
  • Engineering reports and documents
  • Customer briefings
  • Milestone review materials
  • Hardware specifications
  • User manuals
  • Assist technical communicators, writers and editors in interviewing subject matter experts to understand their technical solutions, then create compelling visual representations – including 2- and 3-dimensional stills and animations – to effectively illustrate their concepts.
  • Develop data plots, tables, infographics, functional block diagrams, technical graphics, and other illustrations to support business pursuits and processes.
  • Assist with the creation of marketing and branding materials.
  • Provide communications support for student Ball Intern Rocket Scientist Team (BIRST).
  • Provide additional internal and external communications support, as assigned.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What You’ll Need:
  • Must have completed your sophomore year and be enrolled in a degree program for the fall of 2020. We will also accept graduating seniors enrolled in a post graduate program.
  • Pursuing degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related degree field.
  • Undergraduate or graduate work in Technical Illustration, Technical Communication, Graphic Arts, Information Design, Animation, Public Relations, Journalism, Multimedia, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Computer skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, and InDesign, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Visio and Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, and Project.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Interest in analyzing and distilling information into technically accurate, understandable, visual representations of data and transforming highly technical content into easily understandable graphics.
  • Strong collaboration skills, creativity, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines, action-oriented/drive for results, strong interpersonal skills, strong ethics and integrity, ability to work in a team environment.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
