Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is actively seeking an Algorithm Developer for the development of advanced algorithms for the intelligence and defense communities. Application areas include geolocation, image understanding, machine learning, uncertainty quantification, and optimization. The scientist / engineer will join a multi-disciplined collaborative team of engineers and scientists.

Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have an active interest in applying math/statistics/physics/engineering concepts to solve multi-disciplinary problems. The candidate should be familiar with improving/optimizing/tuning existing algorithms as well as development of new algorithms from scratch. This will include software design, software development, and debugging / issue resolution. The candidate should demonstrate a hands-on approach to problem solving and must be willing to actively participate in evaluation of algorithm and system performance. Other responsibilities include assisting in preparation of oral and written reports and supporting customer briefings.

Required Algorithm Developer Qualifications:
  • US Citizenship (Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information).
  • BS in Engineering / Mathematics / Physics / Computer Science.
  • Proficiency with an object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java or C++) and a scripting/prototyping language (e.g., Python or R).
  • Proven experience developing knowledge in one of the following areas (or a related area): computer vision, signal processing, statistics, optimization, uncertainty quantification, control theory, machine learning, or natural language processing.
  • Strong initiative, self-starter, quick-learner, proactive contributor.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience with Object Oriented software development using a high-level language, e.g., modern C++ or Java.
  • Experience evaluating algorithm performance to demonstrate satisfaction of stakeholder requirements.
  • Experience addressing computational performance challenges using techniques such as parallel and distributed computing, GPU processing, out-of-core processing, and clever algorithm design.
  • Experience with tools and processes used in software development, e.g., IDEs, Version Control. 
  • Experience working on intelligence and DoD programs.
