VetTech Intern - Mechanical

We conduct this research on a 6,800-acre prairie, 35 miles outside Chicago, a treasure that has been designated a National Environmental Research Park.

A VetTech Mechanical Intern provides routine technical support for area of assignment; typically, an experiment or support group. Depending on the area of assignment, fabricates, sets up, calibrates, operates, tests, repairs, and/or modifies a variety of mechanical equipment, systems and devices, or performs ESH duties including environmental surveys, waste disposal, and radiological surveys. Tasks are accomplished under direct supervision of a Fermilab employee and in cooperation with project teams, scientists, engineers, and support personnel and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

The intern may gain exposure to mechanical systems, fluid systems, construction planning, facility maintenance, crane and rigging, forklift and industrial trucks use, cryogenics, vacuum systems, tools and shop equipment, and reading schematics and engineering drawings.
