Intern - Facilities Maintenance (Summer 2020)

About the group
The 8 member Shakopee Facilities Maintenance Team currently consists of 4 HVAC Technicians, 2 Electricians and 2 Mechanics who work together to maintain and provide upkeep to the interior and exterior of the facilities and equipment to insure that all facilities, infrastructures, and equipment are maintained to the highest quality standards.  The maintenance and upkeep of the facilities are a vital part of Seagate’s ability to build a superior product and with great customer service. The Shakopee Facilities Maintenance Team provides services for our clean rooms, test floors, reliability labs, and many other supporting groups. These services depend on electrical power, clean dry compressed air (CDA), vacuum, HVAC and many more utilities and services that facilities provides and manages. Working in Facilities is a different and exciting experience every day; not one day is ever the same.  

About the Role:  

  • You will work with a facility staff member one-on-one and will rotate with a new person depending on the length of the project/task.  With the guidance of a Facility Member at all times, you will perform the following tasks:
  • Perform maintenance and repair of structures, electrical, heating, plumbing, ventilating, air conditioning, drainage systems, and other supporting building systems.  
  • Contribute and to the development and integration of PM (Preventative Maintenance) System) and Facilities Service Request (Work Order) System.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance checks of buildings and equipment.
  • Training and Operation (currently Alerton based) Building Control System (BCS)
  • Repair or replace faulty or damaged light fixtures, outlets, thermostats, breakers and fuses as directed (and qualified).
  • Training and use of AutoCAD system.
  • Execute repair or replacement of plumbing and fixtures
  • Prepare surfaces for finishing, i.e. painting as directed.
  • Complete minor construction and repair tasks.
  • Replace damaged ceiling and/or floor tile.
  • Training on building automation system (BMS)
  • Maintain facilities metrics.

About you:

  • Student pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's Facilities related degree or program (and returning to school in fall of 2020).
  • Should have aptitude for maintenance-type duties and willingness to assist when needed.
  • Must dress to comply with safety regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency.
