Intern - Mechanical Design (summer 2020)

Seagate is seeking to hire a Mechanical Design Intern in the Mechanical Technology Development organization to develop new head mechanical systems. This position will be located in Bloomington, MN at Seagate's Recording Head Operations research and development facility.

About the role:
You will be working on a variety of engineering projects related to development of new trace gimbal designs for future product requirements. Responsibilities include:

  • Design recording head suspension and micro-actuator technologies from concept phase through feasibility and development to support Seagate’s product road map.
  • Deliver technology, tools, transfer functions and understanding to customers for system level integration of mechanical designs.

About you:

  • Student pursuing a MS or PhD degree in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Physics or related discipline.
  • Experience in commercial finite element modeling with software tools.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Solid academic background and fundamentals in your core major.
  • Experience using software such as LabView, Matlab, JMP to acquire and analyze data from laboratory experiments.
  • A background in design of experiments and data analysis as well as the interpretation of data generated from designed experiments using standard statistical analysis techniques.
  • A six sigma Black belt or extensive experience with six sigma techniques
  • Leadership, strong decision-making skills and initiative
  • Strong communication skills.
