In your capacity you will support world-class relationship management capabilities with individual donors, institutional donors, corporate partners, volunteers, the nonprofit sector, government, community leaders, board of directors and the Greater Twin Cities United Way team that will result in creating positive impact for all people within our community experiencing poverty. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and time management skills and will thrive in a high-accountability, fast-paced environment. 
 
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE
The primary purpose of this 20 hour/wk student intern position is to provide research expertise, information management, evaluation support, and consultation on analytic endeavors to support Greater Twin Cities United Way. This will be done through analysis of internal and external data and tailoring it to meet the needs of a diverse array of stakeholders.
 
 
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Research & Analysis – 60%
·        Collect, summarize, and interpret multiple sources of information on issues related to United Way’s mission. Develop clear and compelling reports and other products that convey complex information in an easy-to-understand format.
·        Conduct research and analysis to inform Community Impact strategy across all GTCUW’s impact.
·        Provide human and social services research support to Community Impact team in the areas of program models, delivery, impact, and policy. Requires presenting complex information in a clear way for a lay audience.
·        Update a variety of internal research products on a regular basis.
·        Respond to impact-related research requests from other teams within the Community Impact Department
·        Support the development of research, analysis, and evaluative thinking skills in colleagues.

Measurement, Learning, & Evaluation – 20%
·        Support developing measures and designing evaluation plans for various Community Impact endeavors.
·        Support the articulation of strategies for the purposes of evaluation and communication, such as through a theory of change.
·        Prepare, analyze, and summarize evaluation and reporting data for the purpose of staying in touch with community need, deepening relationships with programs, learning to improve, and communicating our impact to a variety of stakeholders.
·        Develop a strong case for United Way’s unique value in the community and our impact in the context of the community need. Engage in effective impact communication, giving Fundraising, Marketing, and Communications the tools to tell a compelling story about our work.

Organizational and Administrative Support – 20%
·        Generate reports and presentations for the Impact Strategy team
·        Provide basic project management support for key Impact Strategy initiatives
·        Provide basic administrative support for the Impact Strategy team
·        Participate in general organizational events.
·        Develop productive working relationships with internal stakeholders in IT, advancement, corporate relationships, and operations.
 
COMPETENCIES THAT SUPPORT YOUR WORK
·        Strong understanding of fundamentals of applied measurement, analysis, and evaluation
·        Strong data visualization abilities (including mapping)
·        Basic familiarity and experience in working with U.S. Census data
·        Ability to perform qualitative and quantitative research in areas related to the mission of United Way, including literature reviews using a variety of academic, governmental, and research related sources
·        Excellent writing skills and ability to translate complex community issues effectively to a lay audience
·        Demonstrated ability to work as a member of cross-functional project teams and an ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders on an individual and group basis in a respectful manner
