Intern-Supply Chain Management Material Project Management #3423

Position Description:
The General Dynamics Land Systems Intern Program provides an opportunity for students looking to start or continue the transition from academia into industry. Our three-month internship assignments provide compensation based on area of study and class standing, and have the students embedded in key functional areas of our business, getting real-world experience and mentorship from seasoned professionals.

The qualified candidate will serve within the Supply Chain Management Department as a Project Manager. This person will act as the primary interface with Program Office and Program Teams relative to identification and release of Material requirements and program/contract support for aftermarket, production, and engineering. The individual's activities will contribute to ensuring that program and contract milestones are met relative to material support tasks and Master Scheduling of end item deliverables.

Activities may include participating or operating within:
  • Support Integrated Product Development Teams
  • Production Program and Support Services Teams
  • Oracle MRP Independent Demand and Dependent Demand Planning and Analysis (Master Scheduling)
  • Proposal Development Teams, Build Teams, Process Action Teams representing Supply Chain Management (SCM)
  • Serve as SCM liaison and Project Management representative for all material-related activities
  • Interface with GDLS (internal) Teams and with external (customer) teams
  • Drive early identification of BOM and make/buy decisions to support development of purchase order placement schedules. Perform lead time setback analysis and develop material (hardware) release schedules to prioritize Production & Engineering release of product definition to drive timely release to support timely procurement.
  • Develop, maintain, and publish status reports to monitor material releases, purchase order placement and hardware delivery status; identify necessary corrective actions in concert with Program Office & Financial Organization, product teams and various SCM departments to ensure timely implementation; assess effectiveness of corrective action efforts and communicate exceptions / issues to leadership team and upper management for timely resolution to ensure program schedules and requirements are met.
  • Attend Program meetings and serve as SCM representative; Types of meetings include: Design Reviews (internal and external), Program Management and Status meetings, Build Team meetings for shortage identification and resolution, proposal development and strategy meetings
  • Chair program briefings with Supply Chain Management to communicate program requirements, schedules, and priorities and to identify impact to SCM Organization
  • Responsible to develop meeting agenda and prepare presentations to present to peers, supervision, and executive leadership.
  • Support Proposal Development teams representing SCM. Support pricing exercises; engage in division Op Plan Development regarding material support required for programs for the forecasting period involved; develop and present SCM metrics; requires strong communication skills and interface with program office and other teams including, Lead Support Cross Functional teams, LSS, WSA and Continuous Improvement teams.
  • Conduct working level hardware status reviews with Procurement personnel and management to ensure program requirements and priorities are understood;
  • Conduct / chair meetings as required with Supply Chain Management personnel to expedite necessary actions

Position Requirements:
  • Pursuing a Bachelors Degree from an accredited 4 year university or college
  • Attained at least a Sophomore status based on university/college’s class standing requirements at the start of the internship
  • Preferred – GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be a U.S. Person (i.e. a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.)
  • Must successfully pass standard pre-employment screens and must provide an original transcript from their school before their first day of employment
  • Must be able to complete a minimum of a full time, 3 month assignment
