ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:

CAPI USA (CAPI) has been working with immigrant, refugee and U.S. born communities in need since 1982 and serves over 6,000 participants annually across three core service areas including Basic Needs, Economic Empowerment and Civic Engagement. With a diverse staff of 30, who collectively speak 15 languages, a new headquarters in Brooklyn Center, MN. and a second multi-service community center in Minneapolis, CAPI is working hard to help close the equity gap as we celebrate the tremendous skills, strength and resiliency of those who walk through our doors. CAPI’s mission is to guide individuals in their journey toward self-determination. JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for organizing and implementing CAPI’s annual grant development plan to ensure the agency secures the necessary resources to meet (and grow) the annual revenue target of 3+ Million. This position will work closely with CAPI’s leadership team including the Development and Communications Manager and a board resource development committee to ensure ongoing progress with the agency’s operating and capital needs.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $70,000

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
Develops competitive proposals for funding (75%)
•         Serves as the lead grant writer for government (primarily city, county and State of Minnesota) and foundations to secure funding for operations and capital. Including 30-50+ proposals annually.
•         Serves as the primary point of contact for contracted grant writer(s) (if/when there are capacity needs).
•         Schedules proposal development meetings with leadership team staff (to determine proposal submission strategy).
•         Complete annual reports in conjunction with the leadership team.


Develops and continually updates CAPI’s grant development plan (10%)

•         Continually reviews and monitors foundation and government websites and builds relevant sources/deadlines into CAPI’s grant development plan.
•         Establishes and continually improves “grant development” protocols that outline how and what gets done by when and the expectations of all parties in meeting deadlines, etc.

Support CAPI Events (10%)

•         Works in a supportive capacity with CAPI’s Development and Communications Manager, leadership team, board resource development committee and operations staff to secure funding for CAPI’s annual fundraising event(s).
•         Works in a supportive capacity with CAPI’s Development and Communications Manager, leadership team, Board of Directors and operations staff and the Twin Cities World Refugee Day (TCWRD) staff/consultants to secure sponsors for TCWRD.


Other tasks (5%)

•         Attends and consistently contributes at CAPI staff, board and board committee meetings
•         Represents and promotes the agency’s mission and programs in a variety of public settings
•         Fulfills other tasks and assignments that enable the agency to fulfill its mission

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and Experience:
•         BA degree in relevant field
•         5+ years of progressively responsible leadership experience in non-profit grant writing and fundraising.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•         Knowledge of Twin Cities foundations and Minnesota government funding sources aligned with CAPI’s programming and mission
•         Knowledge and experience with successful grant-writing including government and corporate grants
•         Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to work with people at all levels including CAPI board members, leadership and agency partners and stakeholders.
•         Ability to establish clear goals, expectations and protocols for organizational fund development and management.
•         Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
•         Knowledge and experience in project design, development, implementation, evaluation, grant writing and budget development
•         Valid MN Drivers’ License, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet agency’s driving record requirements
