Intern-TCV Mechanical Engineer #3420

Position Description:

The General Dynamics Land Systems Intern Program provides an opportunity for students looking to start or continue the transition from academia into industry. Our three-month internship assignments provide compensation based on area of study and class standing, and have the students embedded in key functional areas of our business, getting real-world experience and mentorship from seasoned professionals.

Mechanical Engineering Intern - Will assist and work with Engineers, Project Leads, Section Managers and Department Managers on various assignments/projects related to the business which may span to tracked, wheeled, amphibious or naval platforms/turrets. The department has engineering systems responsibilities for structure, armor, weapons and ammo handling, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuels, fire suppression, blast attenuating seating, integrating and shock mounting of electronic displays/boxes, gearboxes, steering and braking to name several. Will support various projects by doing analysis & design, drawing mark-ups, tolerance stacks and source data assistance, writing Material procurement requests and/or shop requests, chasing parts and participating in design hardware fit-checks, report writing and other general engineering activities, will provide support to Prototype and Production vehicle build and follow-up, technical corrective action formulation, troubleshooting and redesign activities and will support development of Management Materials including spreadsheets, database maintenance, presentations.
 
Position Requirements:

-Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited 4-year university of college.
- Candidate must successfully pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Must demonstrate good written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Demonstrated effective time management skills
- Some travel (<5%) may be required
- Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Physics preferred, from an accredited 4-year university or college.
- Must have attained at least a sophomore status based on the university/college's class standing requirements at start of internship.
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is preferred
- Candidates must be at least 18 years old
- Must be a U.S. Person (i.e. a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.)
- Candidates must successfully pass standard pre-employment screens and must provide an original transcript from their school before their first day of employment.
- Students must be able to complete a minimum of a full time, 3-month assignment
